Health Benefits of a few of our awesome ingredients:
(Yes all are potential benefits, and so are daily vitamins, and common sense)
CoConut Milk (powder) - The health benefits of coconut milk alone are enough. In addition to being lower calorie, coconut milk contains healthy fats that promote heart health and may aid in weight loss and lowering cholesterol levels. Coconut milk also contains high amounts of beneficial minerals, including potassium, magnesium and selenium. The natural sweetness of coconut also adds a great flavor to your cocoa. Suitable for many diets and lifestyles including Keto and vegan and those that are lactose intolerant.
MCT Oil (Powder) - MCT simply stands for medium chain triglycerides, as opposed to long chain triglycerides (LCT), which are found in most foods. MCT is comprised of primarily caprylic and capric fatty acids, and is a light-yellow, odorless, translucent liquid at room temperature. MCT oil occurs naturally in coconut oil and other foods. MCT powder is manufactured from MCT oil using a process called spray drying. Manufacturers use specialized industrial equipment to bind MCT oil to a microscopic fibrous carrier powder, which converts the liquid MCTs to a solid, powdered form.
Aid in Weight Loss or Weight Maintenance - MCTs can aid in weight loss or maintenance because of their unique ability to be processed by the liver directly into energy making it a great carbohydrate substitute preventing spikes in insulin used for glucose processing. In the absence of carbohydrates MCTs have a direct pathway via the portal vein to the liver from the small intestine to produce ketones as a substitute fuel.LCTs, however, require the liver and pancreas to secrete substances that are necessary to break down LCTs into triglycerides. Triglycerides are then transported into the lymphatic system by chylomicrons. Any excess triglyceride that was not used for energy by the body is deposited back into the liver.
Brain Health - The brain accounts for 20% of energy expenditure of the entire body and metabolic activity is constant over time. This requires a continuous source of energy that comes primarily from blood glucose. When blood glucose levels get low the liver can break down stored body fat into ketones. Ketones easily pass through the blood-brain barrier for instant energy to the brain. There is evidence to support that MCTs can have an incredible effect on brain health specifically reversing the effects of Alzheimer's and other brain diseases. Aging reduces the ability of the brain to process glucose as brain food making brain cells insulin resistant. In addition Alzheimer's damages the ability of brain cells to take in the glucose needed for proper functioning causing cells to die. MCTs can bypass glucose metabolism getting energy directly to the brain and provide instant energy to brain cells without the assistance of insulin.
Heart Health - MCTs have beneficial properties that could play a role in preventing atherosclerosis. Research shows that MCTs lower lipids, oxidized LDLs, fat deposition, triglycerides and inflammation while raising HDLs by stimulating the metabolism. MCTs may even diminish the cholesterol-elevating effects of other fats. MCTs are the only fats that do not increase platelet adhesiveness. MCTs are said to have an anti-coagulation effect that can lower serum cholesterol and reduce levels of cholesterol in the liver and other tissues.
Improve Energy Levels and Mood - MCTs are metabolized in liver mitochondria. Mitochondria are little furnaces inside the cells and are the site of cellular energy production. The energy created by the mitochondria is converted into ATP to be used for all bodily functions. Unfortunately, dietary fat cannot enter the mitochondria by themselves because the fatty acid molecules cannot make it across the mitochondrial membrane. Fatty acid molecules must be carried across the membrane by the carnitine shuttle in order to be converted into ATP. This makes makes MCTs a more bio-available energy source. Since a 1 gram of fat burns at 9 cal/gram and 1 gram of carbs burns at 4 cal/gram, this also makes MCTs a more potent energy source.
Improve Digestion and Nutrient Absorption - MCTs are beneficial for balancing gut bacteria. This has positive effects on digestive symptoms, energy expenditure, and the ability of the gut to absorb vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. Healthy fats are required to absorb fat-soluble nutrients such as beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A found in plants like berries, squash and leafy greens), vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and lutein. The lack or absence of healthy fats in the body impairs nutrient absorption. MCT oil powder encourages good bacteria to grow and heals the gut lining. When you have holes in your intestine, toxins, bacteria, and food particles can escape and enter your bloodstream, putting you at risk for serious gastrointestinal (GI) disorders including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and food allergies. MCTs are also strong antifungals, antivirals, and antibacterials.
CoCoa Nibs - These small pieces of crushed cacao beans or cocoa beans have a bitter, chocolatey flavor. Produced from beans derived from the Theobroma cacao tree, cocoa beans are dried after harvesting, then fermented and cracked to produce small, dark bits or cacao nibs. Unlike many chocolate products, cacao nibs are naturally low in sugar. They’re also a good source of fiber, protein, and healthy fats and nutrients that help promote feelings of fullness. They’re rich in many minerals, including iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, and copper. Magnesium is a mineral needed for over 300 different enzyme reactions in your body but lacking in many people’s diets. Phosphorus, magnesium, and manganese are vital for healthy bones, while copper and iron are needed for producing red blood cells that supply oxygen to your body. Additionally, cacao nibs are packed with potent plant compounds, including flavonoid antioxidants, which have been associated with numerous health benefits.
Packed with antioxidants - Antioxidants are compounds that help protect your cells from damage caused by an excess of molecules called free radicals. When free radicals outnumber antioxidants, it leads to a condition known as oxidative stress that has been linked to a number of chronic conditions, such as heart disease, certain cancers, mental decline, and diabetes (Cacao nibs are loaded with antioxidants. These include a class of polyphenol antioxidants called flavonoids, such as epicatechin, catechin, and procyanidins. In fact, cocoa and chocolate products have the highest flavonoid content by weight of any other food). Flavonoids are associated with many health benefits. For example, research shows that people who consume diets rich in flavonoids have lower rates of heart disease, certain cancers, and mental decline Due to their high flavonoid content, cacao nibs and other cocoa products can make a significant contribution to dietary antioxidant intake.
Boost immune health - The potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of cacao nibs can have a positive impact on your immune health. Research shows that cocoa has beneficial effects on your immune system. For example, cocoa flavonoids help decrease inflammation, which can help improve overall immune response. Cocoa may also improve the function of the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), an important part of the immune system located throughout your intestines. The GALT contains approximately 70% of all immune cells in your body Studies have demonstrated that cocoa may have protective effects against food allergies by positively impacting the GALT. Cocoa-enriched diets have been shown to decrease sensitivity to oral antigens, toxins and allergens by enhancing the function of a special layer in your intestines that helps protect against food allergy and maintain gut health.
Blood sugar control - Cacao consumption may benefit those with blood sugar control issues. Studies have shown that cocoa can help regulate blood sugar control and improve sensitivity to insulin, a hormone that helps cells absorb blood sugar. With just 2 servings of cocoa per week some culture’s have found a 25% reduced risk of diabetes. Cacao nibs may be one of the best cocoa products to choose for blood sugar regulation, as they’re high in blood-sugar stabilizing antioxidants and do not contain any added sugar.
Cacao nibs nutrition - Though small in size, cacao nibs are packed with an impressive amount of nutrients. One ounce (28 grams) of cacao nibs provides: Calories: 175, Protein: 3 grams, Fat: 15 grams, Fiber: 5 grams, Sugar: 1 gram, Iron: 6% of the SDI, Magnesium: 16% of the SDI, Phosphorus: 9% of the SDI, Zinc: 6% of the SDI, Manganese: 27% of the SDI, Copper: 25% of the SDI
